MOM: Game 13

Small turnout last night… i must say it is a shame to see such a high number of so called “regulars” this season not turning up on a regular basis. Interesting to note that we have 13 currently on the table with a further 18 players not on the table! Last night was almost a 5 a-side game especially in the 2nd half when all nine goals were scored.

…. hopefully with X-factor over numbers will be on the up?

Not been funny andy but why am i not on the league?anyway good game last night i thought my team tryed hard and it paid off.
1st- gareth played well all game attacking and getting back to help defence.
2nd- bomber he played a solid game at the back as usual.keeping us in the agme when it was needed most.

  2. Andy Harrogate Says:

Jordy you need to have played 10 games to be on the league table (70%), your currently on 9

    my votes as follows:

    1. Woody, thought he really upped his game second half
    2. Charlie B, as Jordy said was solid at the back

  3. Josh D Says:

Jordy your better of havin played less games thts the way you do well in table,

    my mom’s,

1st - Gareth, great game from gaz, played well in attack with some creative play.
2nd - Jordy, played really well, was hard to defend against and a great asset if on your team.

also gotta say well done to the captains for well picked teams this week

Good game despite the numbers being low. By the way Andy you have the goals wrong for my team. I scored 2 and Liam scored 1.

    MOM Votes
    - Jordan - always had space and every good move came through him.
    - Tom - growing in confidence both off and on the ball.

  5. Andy Harrogate Says:

….. Did Joel not get a goal??? - was sure he scored?

  6. Goldenboots Says:

Not this week. It might just be a blur to you as 6 of the goals were scored within about a 3 minute period.
But is was deff Liam with the 1st and I got the other 2.

Joel scores enough goals without giving him gifts as well!!!!!!!

  7. dmillington Says:

You’ve raised a good point Jordy, there are 16 players who are 1 game
down on the league but not in terms of their attendance, which is one
reason the league table is a bit low on numbers.

Technically Jordy should be on the league as he played the week at the
end of October for which the result was not counted but the attendance
should, as in previous years if you were 1 game short at the end of the season to get on the league and this happened you were put on it.

The only way I can see to get round this is to keep a column ( at least on your spreadsheet Andy) which has a games played column. So in Jordan’s
case: Played 10. W, D, L columns totally 9,(1 no result ) all out of 13 possible games, giving him a 76% attendance instead of 69%. Someone will point out that it should actually be out of 14 ( Being pedantic ) but in this case it would still give 71% attendance!!

The whole point is that people who have played in games with no result
would benefit and someone who didn’t play that week doesn’t benefit by for example winning the leaugue with an actual attendance of below 70%!
Of course it would have been much easier for the result to have stood but
as it didn’t this is about the only fair way of handling the attendance I can see, any other ways anyone cos my wrists starting to hurt…..

  8. Goldenboots Says:

Dave I’m not sure that it is a major problem as we have only ever had 1 game per season that has been a ‘no result’ match, it doesn’t really have much of a bearing. However I’m sure that it is no major headache for Andy to consider the changes you have suggested.

I still think that the major issue that we are facing here is that Andy is stealing my goals and allocating them to other people!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have also noticed that this happened earlier in the season (Game 9) where he allocated my goal to Chris. I think that this is appauling and I have already made contact with my union rep.

  9. Andy Harrogate Says:

Dave. I have noted the game that was cancelled however i have not included it as present as it does complicate things as people are already in and out of the table, (more times than i mistake who scored Lukes goal for him!)

With this in mind and as in previous seasons i always make allowance for these cancelled games at the end of the season, however in the last 4-5 seasons the games cancelled have never made any difference on who is in the league table.

Luke… with regards your complaint I have spoken to my team leader who has said he takes your comments very seriously and your welcome to contact him via the attached number: 08457 90 90 90

On a more serious note I do have a question for Andy.

How many points does Josh D get when he swaps teams?
If my maths is correct then it looks like he is getting 3 points. He has 7 wins recorded so far and 6 of these games he has been that player who was swapped at half time.

  11. Andy Harrogate Says:

Yes that is correct. As always if a player swaps at half time full points are awarded!

  12. Goldenboots Says:

Is this the fairest thing to do as this means that the swapped player will always have a greater chance of earning points. The league proves this as Josh is currently 3rd or 4th and 18 of his points have been awarded by swapping teams. It means that whoever is swapped doesn’t need to play well or worry about the result as they will get their points anyway.

Every week there are 4 possible outcomes for the player who is swapped:
Numbers are Odd = 3 points
Even Numbers and he wins = 3 points
Even Numbers and he draws = 2 points
Even numbers and he loses = 0 points

At least 75% of the time Josh will come away with points. For players who are not swapped they only have a 66% chance of scoring points.

    My suggestions:
    1) Reduce the points that a swapped player recieves. Maybe from 3 down to 2.
    2) No more swapping players. Captains need to make sure that the teams are balanced so that there is no need to swap a man at half time. Maybe allocate the extra man to the captain who picks 2nd for example.

Any other suggestions or thoughts welcomed

  13. dmillington Says:

Yes that’ fine chaps, I just think that players’s that are on 9 will obviously
not be on the league due to the reasons stated when he could be put in even now to give all a better idea where they would be, Jordy’s not going to win it anyway. :-(

Still the dubious goals committee could be set-up with expert technology with a trial in the Generation’s cup final- we would probably need to start at 6pm tho, to allow for all the challanges.

My suggestion for the swap player is:

    1st 3 games swapped 3 points,

every game after that 2 points

I dont think it’s practical to not swap sometimes.

As for union reps ‘I just wanna play football’ (scouse accent)

  14. Josh D Says:

in regards to been swapped and the table u dont need to worry because i attended 99% of the games and with the way that the table works tht amazingly is a disadvantage to me and soon enought you’ll see me fall further down the table and then you’ll all be able to stop worrying about someone else rather than urselves winning it.

  15. dmillington Says:

You only play 99% of the games!
Trust me Josh you’ll have the league sown up by January ¬.-

On a more serious note let’s hope the pitch is not frozen on Sunday!!

  16. Josh D Says:

in a season dave which is more than most, and the pitch should be fine its better than fearnville’s ever was.

  17. Andy Harrogate Says:

    Dear me… madness all around!

Josh i think Dave was being sarcastic! :-)

I am sure this is all a bit groundhog day… when we had James who was contiually swapped only the previous year i thought it was chosen that we would try not to have a swap player - the problem is this year we have had a lot of odd number players meaning a swap and nobody does this

I’m sure as with James, Curtis (that was the old days) and even others in the past Josh would prefer not having to swap… would mean he has more to play for!

It is fact that if someone swaps during a game they will always get points and if it is happening more often than not it isn’t fair… i am open to suggestions…. what do you think Josh?? seems to be affecting you more than others?

  18. Josh D Says:

there is no perfect solution to this problem.

i can see where people are coming from when points are concerned but i cant see how its fair if i’m the team i’m on is winning and i’m swapped to the losing team.

i’ve always said i’d rather not be swapped but when we didn’t swap a player 1 game evryone complained that it wasn’t fair.

i’m not sure what can be done that its fair to everybody. :/

  19. jordyboy Says:

Can i ask wth?i ask 1 question and ww3 starts, anyway i agree with change to the points given, however to single josh out isnt fair if he wins the league fair play the guy turns up most weeks and to be honest if he continues to progress then he wont always be the swapped man.the trouble is with lukes idea of not swapping someone is that on a full pitch 10/11/12 a side you can have a little more room for mistakes but seen as people have developed crap blood it means they cant stick the cold and therefore we have 6 on 7.

  20. Andy Harrogate Says:

Must agree with you there Jordy.. I think it is a difficult one….

I do have a solution, which will take effect from Sun…….. If there is an extra man i will be the man who swaps team..! DONE!

  21. Goldenboots Says:

Thanks for all the comments. I want to say that I am actually not bothered who wins the league as long as they win it for the right reasons. I just don’t think that being the swapped player is the right reason.

I actually don’t think that it is fair that Josh has to swap as he is not a bad player, and I’m sure that when we get new players playing that he won’t be swapped all the time, but the problem will carry on with anyone who is swapped.

I understand that when we only have 6 and 7 a side it is difficult not to swap a man a the team with 6 will always get tired out, but it might be worth a try.
